Goal: I need to track clicks to remote url’s from locations that are not mine, but which will have content from me. Redirecting thru my site is the obvious solution, but how does this scale?

How can I redirect hundreds or thousands of url’s?

I suspect that using .htaccess will be way too slow.

I’ll bet a simple database, or tablelook, would be mucho faster

How much of an impact is shared hosting @ dreamhost, or site5?

What factors determine host performance?

Latency: Congestion @ the host’s network.
Direct backbone connection: Proximity to both parties.
Shared Hosting: Server load–not predictable.

Who is a better host?

Do the Status Codes have any impact?

What happens when there isn’t any Status Code?
